Ben Kenobi Desert Nomad Statue Design

For Sideshow's Mythos line, we had the opportunity to expand on some of the characters we loved from the original Star Wars movies. I was always interested in what type of adventures Ben had while looking after young Luke all of those years between Episodes 3 and 4, and here was my opportunity to explore it.

Concept Art
Creative Director Tom Gilliland had the idea that Ben was a  nomad at this point. We wanted to show that Ben had not yet settled down into the hut that we see in Star Wars, but instead he was more of a gypsy wandering the wastelands of Tatooine - going on all sorts of adventures, while secretly looking after Luke.

I did several concept sketches of his pose, and of all the items on his backpack. I crammed as many mementos from his travels as I could fit on his pack, as well as a few that we'll later see on the walls of his hut in A New Hope.
